Adjusting

How come nobody warned us that things would be different at home?!

Seriously, though, life at home has been, as expected, a huge adjustment. We are blessed to have a wonderful daughter, but we are jealous for free time these days. Leen and I have been napping when we can, in between feedings, changings, and visitors. No worries, but we thought a tiny update would be good. Eileen is on the mend, and she looks fantastic! Alex has recovered from his illness. Most importantly, Ginny is happy as a clam. There are more pictures coming, they just need to be processed and culled.

Thanks to those who have helped us thus far!

Fun Facts

Ginny Miglio was born on April 29th. Here are some notable folks who share that birthday:

Jerry Seinfeld
William Randolph Hearst
Michelle Pfeiffer
Daniel-Day Lewis
Uma Thurman
Dale Earnhardt
Duke Ellington
Alexander II
Master P
Andre Agassi
Infanta Sofia (Princess of Spain)

Apologies to anyone with an April 30th birthday, but I compared them to the folks born on April 29th; those born on the 29th, Ginny included, are far more talented.

We also thought we’d finish off the months-long name game by giving you the facts behind the baby name game. Here they are:

The Nursery Project (cont.)

Approximately 10 weeks into our nursery makeover we are beginning to have something to be really proud of. Alex and Paul put up the wood paneling, and we’re now only some finishing calking and painting away from building the furniture and finally decorating this sweet space for Minnie! Against Alex’s wishes, I snapped a few shots to show our progress.

  • Here is how the room looks as you enter the doorway.
  • (The futon is still living in the middle of the room because it is just too big to put anywhere else in the house right now.)

  • Here is the view looking back at the door.
  • As I said before, the only thing we need now is some finishing painting to seal up the cracks and dings from construction—-but the guys did such a great job!.

  • Here is the rest of the room with the closet.
  • (We decided after framing the closet that we’re going to paint that orange stripe at the top white.)

We’ve scheduled our target end-date for April 10. Other than the fact that a couple in our birthing class who was due days after we were delivered last Wednesday, we think that should give Eileen ample time to nest away in the nursery. We’re just as excited to see the finished product as you are!

The clues [at the bottom of the list] are getting easier now; we’ve added a new clue to the Minnie Miglio name-game:

“I share a name with a person in a painting by a famous artist.”
“I recently discovered that a character in a famous book shares a name with me.”
“A poem by a. pope contains my middle name in its title.”
“My name is sometimes associated with the juniper tree.”
“I share a name with a Charlotte Bronte character.”
“My name is the title of a play about a medieval Italian city.”
“My name is the title of a German film *not suitable for babies.”

Busy, busy, busy…

Our lives are abuzz with busyness. Whether it’s work, choir, nursery construction, small group, birthing classes, church, chores, or other errands, it has been quite hectic over the past couple of weeks. Accordingly, we are sorry for having disappeared a bit.

The birthing classes have been great, and we’re 3/4 finished. We know going in that our hospital was highly recommended (for security reasons, we have ommitted the hospital name), and these birthing classes have only confirmed that fact. The facilities are great, and we are very happy to deliver Minnie there.

As far as the nursery goes, we’d like to thank Paul Ogden for his immense help in getting the baseboards/wainscot/chair-rail installed in the nursery this past week. He and Alex spent about 18 hours on Saturday and Tuesday (going until about 1 AM on Tuesday) working on this phase of the project. Alex says that Paul’s tools and expertise saved him at least 4x the time/effort it would have taken him to put up the paneling, and it probably would not have looked nearly as good. We know that you all would like to see pictures, but the room is still not finished! We need to get the carpentry painted, the furniture put together, and the room decorated before we can snap some shots; our target completion is 2-3 weeks away.

It is, however, time for another belly shot!

Permalink This past weekend, some more wonderful friends threw us our final baby shower in Montclair. Caroline organized and hosted the shower, which was not co-ed this time. Again, we are quite thankful for the friends we have out here to help us raise Minnie. If you click on the picture, you can see all of the pictures from the shower. Thanks to all of you! We were also fortunate to have some family able to attend the event, travelling from New York, Seattle, Jackson, and Manteca; they came from all over!

On a separate note, last week we began our four-week birthing class, which meets on Wednesday nights for a few hours. It was great to meet other expecting couples and get a sense about where we are emotionally, physically, fiscally, psychologically, and mentally (among other “-ally’s” I am sure) in relation to other folks. We also learned a bit about the birthing experience; Alex is worried that he won’t be able to focus for such a long period of time. Somehow, it seems that should be the least of his worries. All in all, though, our teacher is fantastic, and only reaffirmed our decision to deliver at the hospital we chose (not to mention the hot tubs in some of the delivery rooms).
